Journal Writing Prompts

We expect all students to identify and begin to learn more about a focus area for their doctoral research in the fall this year.

Below are some reflective journal writing prompts that can help you "corral" some ideas as you develop your focus area for your dissertation research project. Writing is thinking and doing this kind of writing can help you approach what you really care about as well as help you narrow your topic to a manageable piece of work.

You can write on one or all of these.

1. What do care about? Why should others care about this topic?
2. What issues, problems, and/or curiosities attract you in education?
3. What can you study and implement that will very likely be helpful to participants in this setting?
4. What's keeping you up at night?
5. What is the "rock in your shoe"?
